Love
I can't believe anyone would complain about the 80s or under mixed! Doesn't Brent sound sweet. I was there! Standing in front of Jerry no less. Every show. I thought the Dead could go on forever. Just can't be replaced.

Jerry under mixed SEVERELY
yes, great clarity from this recording , however don't listen unless you don't mind Jerry's lead guitar being severely under mixed. SEVERELY. Hard to imagine Heads raving about this recording...don't they listen closely?

Agree with Jeffsetz and Augy, the best of the weekend fur sure. Dark Star the Friday was epic, but this is just pure unadulterated pure coked out 1984 Dead at it's best. Jerry though trashed was shredding like never before in 84 imo. One of my favorite years sadly(for Jer;s addiction).

28 years and counting
Can't add much that has not already been said. Got this soundboard a few months into my Fall semester. Sounded so crisp, it was like an album recording piped in from the stage!
Great BirdSong. Just awesome.
Second Set may be the best of the year. I would have to check April 20 - as someone posted below.
6 stars out of 5!!

I poked around online a few months ago, and I believe Bobby's referring to Sonny Heard, one of the GD road crew.

At the beginning of Brokedown Palace, it sounds like Bobby says "Bye bye Sunny." Any idea to whom he was referring?

i just love how the drums are panned exclusively in their own speaker (billy left mickey slaying the china cymbal in the right)... 84 and 85 might be my two fav years. this upload is flawless, no hiss, hat's off and BJ to whomever is responsible.

Best overall show of the weekend
Having attended all three, my first and only Dark Star is of course my sentimental, emotional and visceral favorite moment of the weekend.
But, Sunday's show was better overall by 100 miles. Starts out ripping and never really let's up. Dancing > Bird Song, beautiful and I love Mickey's crash cymbol in this show. Nice Cumberland, Esau and Ramble.
Then the real fun starts. Why Don't We Do It In The Road? Not much fun to listen to over and over but there it was electric and it is the lead in to one of the best China> Riders of the 80's. It leads into a nice, spacey, Playin which just flows into a beautiful Uncle John's. Brent won't let go and they do a nice reading of Don't Need Love before heading off into drums. Post Drums/Space China Doll> Throwing> NFA. While lacking the beauty and majesty of the first half of the second set, it's solid and the encore is wonderful.
From China> Rider to Uncle Johns is the most listened to piece of music in my GD collection. From the second gen tape I got back in the summer of 84 (which lasted until last year) and now on CD. Hot shit.
The 80's are not the 68-77 novelty machines, but every once and while they hit on all cylinders and left smoking craters of minds.

The Best Sound I've Heard
This is the best SBD I have heard on this site + the show is a 10 not a 5. This might be the best show on this site. Sounds like your onstage with the band. And BRENT what can I say, just listen you'll see

Hot in many ways
What I remember the most about this show was the 104 degree temperature inside the venue. The concrete theater was radiating heat everywhere.....including the band. Got to be the best opener I got to witness.....back to back jam songs in "Dancin' in the Streets" into "Bird Song". The sound quality is as good as it gets.

Why can't they all sound this good?
Wow this really fits the bill. While the first set of 7-13-84 might have a step on this one by a hair, this one is sonically superior. The bass response in these shows is stellar, and yea, phil is on.
I absolutely love these shows, it has sparked my interest in 84 shows allot more. check out Irvine 4-7-84, Phili 4-20-84, expo 6-10-84, and merriweather 6-26-84Aud

Hot Show
The opener was fantastic. Both sets. The whole show was great and the crowd energy was great.
Listen to drums and space with headphones some time. Healy was having fun. After this show the crowd refused to let the standard multi show last night encore of brokedown be the last song played. The only time I saw the band leave the stage and then come back for a 2nd encore.

for my money, this was always the ultimate greek show. do it in the "drums" is whimsical and sick -- what other band could have pulled a jam out of this song? jerry's licks in the middle smoke. china->rider is breakneck and nailed. the playin' jam is both high energy and spacy, my favorite '80s quality, and this tops the charts amongst my '80s playin's (band gelling as one). drums splays out into some great electronica experimentation, landing into an odd space where phil (?) busts out trumpet for some discordant play. the oddness continues into the beginning of china doll, the one ballad of the set, and it rips at the heart and guitar strings. jerry's licks are gruff and convincing (albeit curt in comparison to buffalo '77). this throwing stones is, perhaps, one of my all-time favorite versions (why? i still cannot comprehend: they are sloppy, not quite jamming, but played loudly, there is an ENERGY), seguing nicely into a hot not fade away. really folks, this second set is a powerhouse.

Great Show!
Again here is another 80's show that 70's Head's need to listen to. I dare anyone to find a second set as well played and as energetic as this one. China/Rider is amazing. On Audience tapes you can hear a "OH!" go over the croud as the band jumps right into Playin. It's just an amazing show start to finish. I wish I could have been there. One thing I always wondered was what was going on after UJB? It sounded as though Jerry might have been ready to split but Brent was persistant. I can hear his Don't Need riff during the playing jam as well.

favorite Greek show
The show on the 13th tends to get the bulk of the praise from this run do, in part, to the Dark Star encore. Don't let that show overshadow this one. I saw most of the shows at the Greek in the 80s and have most of the recordings. This warm afternoon gets my vote for the best one. The Dancing->Bird Song 1st set opener roars out the gate and tells the listener that the band is fired up and ready to seriously play. The rest of the 1st set is just as hot. The 2nd set is jaw-dropping good. If you want to turn a non-believer into a Deadhead, this is a good place to start.
